There’s sure to be hundreds of musical and culinary marvels at Ruido Fest, but we’re looking forward in a special way to the following acts, which include several Chicago debuts. Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas From Detroit,  Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas serve up a tropicalized Motor City rock with a whole lot of soul. Born to a Mexican American mother and Cuban dad, Hernandez is blessed with a powerhouse voice that seems to be possessed by Amy Winehouse’s spirit, and she can do it all in both English and Spanish. Buscabulla Playing Chicago for the first time, the Puerto-New York-Rican duo of  Buscabulla, i.e., Raquel Berrios y Luis Alfredo del Valle, will cool us off with their deliciously chill take on reggaeton and bachata’s dream-pop side. Mon Laferte Mon Laferte, the Chilean diva now based in Mexico, sets stages on fire with or without Juanes (the two sing about getting tied up in the amorous sense in a recent duet). In her latest album, Laferte channels the longing-filled passion of old school trios, with an indelibly feminine touch. Javiera Mena Also from Chile, indie singer songwriter Javiera Mena deploys computers, synths and a lovely voice in tunes that evoke 21st Century updates of the classic pop rock in Spanish for which her homeland became deservedly famous world-round. Las Piñas We were delighted to discover Argentina’s Las Piñas  thanks to  the Ruido Fest lineup. It will be a treat to check out their particular brand of slightly dark surf rock that despite being immensely danceable, foresees an inevitable winter even while celebrating summertime waves.
