Había tocado el bajo desde los 8 años de edad y junto con su hermano Orestes se le atribuye la invención del mambo. Last Saturday the legendary musician and bassist from Cuba, Cachao, passed away at 89 years of age. Cachao had played the bass since he was 8 years old and is credited along with his brother Orestes with inventing the mambo.
