Multinstrumentalist and singer/songwriter Liber Terán has been an influential figure in México’s indie scene for some time, including cofounding the acclaimed rock mestizo group Los de Abajo, a band that recorded with Luaka Bop, David Byrne’s label.

As a soloist since 2007, Terán has explored his northern Mexican roots (his family hails from Sinaloa) adding Balkan beats, gypsy swing and norteño touches to classic rock and roll ballads. At SXSW, we had a chance to visit with Terán and hear about how he puts together his unique sound as well as hear about his latest record, Errante.
