Multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Luis Maurette from Argentina and Alejandra Ortiz from Colombia met studying at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and formed Lulacruza to transport listeners to soundscapes that they aptly term “primitive and luminous”.

We had a chance to visit with Maurette and very briefly, Ortiz (along with baby daughter Maya) as they start their United States tour which will bring them to Chicago on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Mayne Stage and Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Chicago Cultural Center as part of the World Music Festival.

It was a wonderful opportunity to gain insights into their philosophy of music-making and the beautiful energy they try to share with audiences at concerts.
