Appalatin creates music that embeds Latin melodies in rhythms in Appalachian-fused Americana and vice-versa.

We had a chance to chat with founding member and percussionist Steve Sizemore about how the band has developed a unique musical vision rooted in the acoustic instruments and common meters of diverse genres from distant worlds, a joyful sound which has audiences ranging from Louisville’s Latino immigrants to new fans in rural Kentucky dancing the nights away.

Appalatin will be performing in Chicago for the first time at DOCKtober Fest, in River South, 800 S. Financial Pl., on Saturday, Oct. 26,  at 5:15 PM and on Sunday at 4:45 PM.
