Madrid-born songstress Rebeca Vallejo, who will perform at Old Town School of Folk Music on Wednesday, September 16 at 8:30 pm, has generations of Spanish song in her blood, thanks to the heritage of family members such as her grandmother who was an official saeta singer (flamenco songs for Holy Week).

Now based in New York, Vallejo fulfills the family vocation within a primarily jazz tradition with touches of Brazil. We had a chance to visit with her while she was on tour in Belgium to learn more about the roots of her flamenco-tinged jazz and her new album, Azucar, Canela.
