Inspired by the play Another Word for Beauty, this week’s Beat Latino is all about songs about beauty, and includes a wonderful conversation with Hector Buitrago, who composed the music for the play. The play tells an extraordinary story of beauty and redemption in a women’s prison in Colombia and its annual beauty contest, which got us reflecting on what is beauty for each of us, and is there another word for beauty? From El Salvador to Venezuela to Mexico, here’s songs that celebrate this promise of beauty and art in our lives! Another Word for Beauty can be seen at the Goodman Theatre until Feb. 21, and also is part of the Goodman’s Latino Theater Festival 2016.
